Her Story #1
Puppy Love. That's what it is. That's what teenagers go through. A strong affection they feel towards another. Whenever Samantha sees Leo with Emily, she feels like walking away. Her excuse is always to give them time together, but the truth is she doesn't want to see them with each other. She's asked him about his relationship with Emily before, and every time he'd answered that they were just friends. She had once asked whether he had a crush on anyone. He replied with a knowing smile and a nod. She was sure that that person was Emily.
It's late Spring and temperatures are already soaring. The heat burns through the thin polyester of the school shirts and only adds to the discomfort of taking the train at peak hour. The train is not only not fitted with air-conditioning, but it is also an 'all stops', meaning it'll take Samantha another hour and a half until she reaches Liverpool station. The train grinds to a halt; few get off and about another dozen office workers attempt to get in the carraige.
"Ow!" Samantha and Melissa see Wendy mouth as the train throws everyone to the left. The girls try to give convincing smiles in return to the few apologies people offer. It is obvious that most had had a very long and tiring day and would like nothing more than to simply return home as soon as possible. Each minute seems to drag on for about an hour. Melissa is the first to get off, and as the train leaves Granville, the girls wave from the window. Wendy and Samantha relax and stretch a little as the carraige is a lot more spacious after almost half the train got off. As the train nears it final destination, more and more people begin to alight. Two stops later, Wendy says with a wave, "See you tomorrow," and disappears behind the gates. A couple more stations pass by until it's just Samantha and a few others sitting in the carraige. She pulls out her earphones and space out. The train continues its slow journey from station to station, drawing closer another day's end. Today, was pretty much the usual: learnt something in maths, had a 'friendly' discussion with her english teacher, listened to her friends fan-girling about hot Korean guys, organising the summer holiday outings they would have, talking about Apple products, gossiping about the newest couple, talking about the lastest episode of the hottest drama, imagining how fun it would be to have a maid cafe, deciding what to wear to the school's annual Christmas Dance, etc.
An automated voice sounds. "Next stop, Liverpool. Change at Liverpool for services to Bankstown line and Inner..." Samantha gathers her thoughts, grabs her bag and heads towards the doors. Giving her head a small shake, she focuses on a puffy cloud.
..."How did things turn out this way?"
